GotExchange is an Application Service Provider (ASP), not an Internet Service Provider (ISP). We provide Microsoft Exchange Server as an outsourced service. We do not sell Internet bandwidth, though many of our partners can assist us when connectivity is required for a service deployment.

"Hosting" companies function as an extension to your corporate facilities, with highly redundant data centers providing rack space for your servers and other equipment. GotExchange, on the other hand, functions as an extension of your Information Technology team, managing and monitoring our sophisticated messaging and collaboration infrastructure, so you don't have to. The value we bring is in our expertise running Microsoft Exchange and related systems.

Yes, but only in a limited fashion. The latest version of the Macintosh Operating System, OS X, supports a client software package called Entourage X, which is comparable in function to Outlook 2000. However, it requires several different communications protocols to support the same shared features as Outlook (e.g., IMAP, DAV, LDAP, and more) - and GotExchange does not support the full complement of these protocols at this time

Subscribers to GotExchange's Exchange Application Service access GotExchange servers through industry standard encryption mechanisms and SSL. Optionally, customers may utilize VPN based connections, or point-to-point connections into GotExchange's data centers for maximum security.

Users of GotExchange's OnSight Exchange System connect to the servers locally (behind their corporate firewall), so added security measures are not necessary.

More than 100,000 viruses, Trojan horses, etc. have been identified, with new variations released every day. GotExchange upgrades our anti-virus protection every hour to ensure that your users don’t suffer outages from a virus attack.

SSL and VPN are two separate ways of encryption that GotExchange bundles with its service offerings. By default, all Outlook Web Access (OWA) communication is done via SSL. A client connects to the Internet via their ISP, opens an OWA session via an Internet browser (IE or Netscape) and makes a connection to the GotExchange OWA web page. The web session to GotExchange’s Exchange servers is all done through SSL so all ID’s, passwords and emails are encrypted with 128-bit encryption.

The GotExchange VPN offering is done via 3DES encryption algorithms.

The RPC over HTTP protocol allows your full Outlook 2003 MAPI clients to connect to Exchange 2003 Servers using HTTP/HTTPS. This solves the problem remote Outlook 2003 users have when located behind restrictive firewalls. The trick is to figure out how to properly configure the Outlook 2003 client to use this protocol. If you have remote users who need to access Exchange 2003 via Outlook 2003, then check out this article and see how to configure Outlook 2003 to use RPC over HTTP.For users of Windows XP and Outlook 2003, VPN's are unncessary if your ISP blocks port 135.

Using GotExchange's standard Exchange services, users must install the client application (i.e. Microsoft Outlook) on their local PC's and configure it according to instructions provided by GotExchange's Customer Care Team. (GotExchange provides downloads of Microsoft Outlook to qualified users.) Microsoft provides minimum requirements for the deployment of Outlook as part of the Microsoft Office suite.  However, GotExchange recommends that you use a computer with the following minimums to get a satisfactory experience: Pentium II ( 500Mhz); 64 Mb RAM; and a broadband internet connection (T1, DSL, or cable modem). Dial up connections may be used, but offline configuration of Outlook is recommended.

GotExchange works closely with Microsoft and other vendors to test their new releases and upgrades in our R&D lab. Once approved, we then carefully develop an implementation plan to make the upgrade seamless, and provide at least 3 day's notice to our users prior to any maintenance windows. Outlook Mobile Access and Exchange Server ActiveSync features, formerly found in Microsoft Mobile Information Server 2002, are now built-in with all Exchange Server 2003 Standard installations.

By adding this functionality to the core of each standard Exchange 2003 installation, Exchange Server 2003 reduces the mobile e-mail administrative complexity and potential need to deploy additional mobile server products in the corporate environment, thus lowering the total cost of ownership.

Complementing the Outlook 2003 and Outlook Web Access mobile improvements, Outlook Mobile Access and Exchange Server ActiveSync help provide security for corporate e-mail on a range of mobile devices including browser-based mobile phones and Microsoft Windows Powered Mobile Devices

Outlook Web Access is a tightly integrated component of Exchange Server 2003. The architecture of Outlook Web Access has been redesigned since its introduction in Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.5. Furthermore, enhancements to the Exchange Server 2003 architecture dramatically affect the way Outlook Web Access functions and help to secure corporate messaging information. Outlook Web Access for Exchange 2003 offers greatly improved security and privacy. You can learn more about the security enhancements in the feature overview sections later in this paper.

Outlook Web Access now features a redesigned user interface very similar to Outlook 2003, a spelling checker, creation and modification of server-side rules, and Web beacon blocking. Support for tasks, auto signature support, and address book enhancements simplify the task of managing information. Using a Web browser, Outlook Web Access extends the messaging capabilities of Exchange Server through the Internet to the World Wide Web.

A powerful communication and scheduling program, Outlook 2003 offers new and enhanced functionality that improves your efficiency and makes it easier to collaborate with colleagues. This new functionality includes a completely redesigned user interface for easier mail reading and message management, HTTP access from Outlook, and a new local copy of mailbox using the new cached Exchange mode feature.

Using the new cached Exchange mode feature offers users much faster access to their data and fantastic new opportunities in usability. Improvements in MAPI compression allow data to travel faster between Outlook 2003 clients and Exchange 2003, reducing the number of communication round-trip attempts and bytes over the network. Like the rest of the Microsoft Office System, Outlook 2003 helps you work smarter

GotExchange's Microsoft Exchange Hosting (ASP)

In GotExchange's Hosted Microsoft Exchange Service, GotExchange delivers Microsoft Exchange as a network-based service, with the full feature-set that users have come to expect from this sophisticated message system. This innovative approach provides Fortune-500 class IT infrastructure, operations and services to any size company, offloading internal IT departments and helping companies focus on their core business functions. (This model is also known as the "application service provider," or ASP, delivery model.) The hosted Exchange approach transforms Exchange Server from software and hardware that an organization must purchase and maintain into a pay-as-you-go service delivered over public and private networks, utilizing Internet and Web technologies.

GotExchange enhances the software with unique add-ons, including wireless access; fax services, and much more.

World-Class Exchange Architecture

In order to provide Exchange hosting to our subscribers, GotExchange has deployed an advanced Exchange Server architecture with clustered, redundant servers configured in automatic fail-over mode. The accompanying storage system is based on an industry-leading Storage Area Network (SAN), which is backed up nightly.

GotExchange's Microsoft Exchange Hosting service enables clients to utilize GotExchange's world-class Exchange architecture, rather than building an internal system.

These servers are housed in a data center facility, which provides redundant electrical, cooling, and fire suppression systems, and maintains tight physical security through the use of biometric (hand-scan) door locks, electronic key cards, signature matching systems, locked-down floor tiles, and security-louvered windows.

In other words, we've built a world-class system that any Global 2000 company would be proud of, and we've staffed it with some of the world's leading experts on enterprise Exchange systems. This enables us to provide Exchange to you with a service guarantee: 99.9% availability, around the clock.

All of GotExchange's hosting operations are painstakingly documented, with the results of all actions measured and analyzed for ways to improve the quality and reliability of our services. This dedication to continuous improvement is at the heart of the ISO 9001:2000 registration that GotExchange earned in December 2000, the very first company in the U.S. (and the only messaging service provider in the world) to earn this distinctive mark of quality.

GotExchange's "A" - A Powerful Account Management Tool

Designated administrators at our customer companies get access to Q, GotExchange's industry-leading tool for account management. With an easy-to-learn, Windows Explorer-like user interface, Q provides a simple way to manage all of your user accounts, including:

  • Create new user or delete existing mailbox
  • Change passwords
  • Add storage, wireless, or other services
  • Create global distribution lists
  • Control public folder permissions
  • And much, much more

According to a recent report from independent research company Nucleus Research, spam is costing businesses as much as $874 per employee per year in lost productivity since an average employee receives the up to 13.3 spam mails per day! To date, a global solution against the senders of these junk mails is nowhere in sight. Leaving only one solution: the receivers must shield their mailboxes using sophisticated filtering software.
